It’s hard to get work done in a house full of animals (four cats, one dog) and kids. But I do my best. However, there are times when I feel like I could just SNAP from the stress of trying to blog, or write, or research, while being Mommy’ed to death or listening to the dog bark and chase the cat(s). I hate blogging with interruptions, because it’s so easy to lose my train of thought and not be able to pick up where I left off.
So when I can get out of the house? I JUMP AT THE OPPORTUNITY. Until recently, the only internet access I had was here at home, so when I discovered in the spring of 2008 that the Panera Bread near me offers free wifi, I was over there in a flash. I took a break over the summer and fall, but now that it’s spring going on summer, and I have no major holidays to focus on, I’m back to wanting to go there at least once a week. It’s quite nice to stake out a small two-seater booth (with an outlet, of course), and get all set up with my notebook, iPod + headphones, cell phone and lunch. (I highly recommend the broccoli & cheddar soup, as it is AMAZING.)
I was last at Panera Bread yesterday evening for about an hour and a half, but since I was there with my husband it was more of a social hour than a productive one. The day before, however, I was there for 3.5 hours, and I kicked some major ass in terms of getting work done.
So for anyone looking for a peaceful work environment, I suggest looking up a local Panera. They have yummy sandwiches, soups, muffins, bagels and a variety of breads and pastries, free wifi, and they’re cool with people hanging out for several hours (unless there’s a huge crowd and people waiting for tables — make sure to use common sense and be courteous to others!). Whether you want to work, play or simply shop for baby bedding, the employees are cool with the time you spend there. And if you can, go between 7am-11am, 2pm-5pm, and anytime after 7pm. These are the times when it’s pretty dead.
