The term mommy blogger is not one that I’m sure I really want to be identified by. It’s certainly true that I am a mommy that blogs, but I like to think that I blog about more than my children and my role as a mother. It’s true that they are a huge part of my life, but I still have a separate identify. Besides, a quick look at this site and at In My Bag would quickly show you that I am quite capable of and willing to blog about non-mommyhood things.
Besides, it seems as though a lot of mommy bloggers only got into the blogging thing after they had babies, or after they got pregnant. I have been blogging since before I had kids. In fact, I was first blogging before I had sex and before I met my husband! Of course, back in those days it wasn’t called blogging, it was called keeping an online diary or journal.
But in the end, it seems like to a certain extent, it doesn’t matter. Every little bit I get snarky comments accusing me of blogging about my kids too much, and then they’re followed up with snarky comments accusing me of not blogging about them enough, and thus being a crappy parent and a selfish one. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t, huh?
And most importantly, I’m not going to change who or what I blog about simply to make sure that identify or don’t identify with a particular term.

I don’t necessarily dis-like the term mommy blogger, but I do picture most of them as not blogging until after they had children. I could be called a mommy blogger, I have two step-kids and one on the way, but I blog about things other than my children. I don’t want to be classified as anything more than a blogger.
I don’t care what snarky comments people may have! I can always delete their snarky little comments if I want…that’s the power of being the blogger.
