How I use my laptop comfortably

I have a desktop and a laptop. Most of the time I use my laptop, mostly because it’s more portable, but also because it’s a bit faster than my desktop. I used to say that it was a lot faster than my desktop, but that was when both were running Windows Vista. Now that I have Windows 7 RC on both computers, the differences in speed and performance are minimal.

Anyway, using my laptop can often be a pain, because if I don’t get into a good position and have the right typing angle, support for my back, so on and so forth, it can be all too easy to develop a headache, eye strain, wrist aches, back aches, and so on and so forth. So I move around a lot. I’ll use my laptop at the kitchen table one day, at my desk the next, at Panera Bread the day after that. I also have a few trays and stands, which enable me to use my laptop comfortably wherever I’m at — in bed, in the recliner, on the sofa, etc. Here is a list of the trays/stands I have:

TableMate. It’s like a glorified TV tray, though it’s much lighter, and offers height and angle adjustments. (Get it for $20 or less on eBay!)

Rubbermaid Laptop Stand. This thing is a godsend! It angles the laptop on a stable surface (kitchen table, computer desk, TableMate, etc.), which can make typing easier. It also provides ventilation for the laptop, which prevents it from overheating. (Walmart has this exact product, manufactured under the Rubbermaid name, for $16!)

Targus Laptop Portable LapDesk. This is a lot like the , except that it is made out of a heavy plastic. It also collapses flat, so it fits right into my laptop bag. Makes it handy for taking along with me. :)

Belkin CushDesk. I just picked this up yesterday, and so far I love it! It’s very comfortable. The only downside is that there isn’t enough room to have my mouse on the surface, but that’s not a big deal. (Target has it for $24.99!)

What types of trays or stands do you use with your laptop?
