Enhancing WordPress is usually done with the assistance of plugins, which are usually just a 1-click install and 1-2 steps to configure and launch. I use over three dozen plugins on jenn.nu, and at least a dozen for all of my other blogs. But recently I was browsing around a variety of WordPress customization sites, and I stumbled across one in particular that outlined how to do a variety of common things without plugins. Without further ado, here is Webanthology’s 12 WordPress solutions without using plugins. A favorite of mine is random posts without a plugin. Random posts are a popular thing to display (random meaning that a post about baby shower games may show links to other posts that don’t discuss anything having to do with babies!), and here’s a great way to display them without using a potential resource-hogging plugin!
