Did you know that Firefox had their very own suite at BlogHer ’10? No? Me neither! I just happened to be on the 43rd or whatever floor of the Hilton checking out another suite when I saw a bunch of cute Firefox stickers along the carpeted hallway, pointing the way to their suite. I followed them, and stumbled into Rock Your Firefox, Mozilla’s new look for Firefox. The suite didn’t have anything fancy like giveaways for Royal Caribbean cruises, but they did have cute t-shirts (I grabbed one; I’ll be able to wear it once I’ve lost another 25 lbs. or so *snicker*), awesomely spacious tote bags, and adorable stickers!

I have to admit, it tempted me so much that I went back to my hotel room that evening and downloaded the beta (version 4). I’ve been using Google Chrome since last November, but I think I’ve been persuaded to give Firefox another try. The only reason I switched in the first place was because of its slowness. If that issue has since been addressed, it’s all gravy, baby!

So becase I’m a lazy SOB and I hate having to retype my password for those sites that force browsers to not remember it (example: most banking sites, Yahoo, PayPal), I searched around tonight to find a solution. Firefox 2 had a neat plugin, but it doesn’t work on FF3 without a bit of tweaking, and even then it didn’t cover the sites I named as examples above.

So, to force Firefox 3 to remember passwords for all sites, regardless of what that site has to say, open up nsLoginManager.js (found in default installation location of Firefox\components\)

Find:

if (element && element.hasAttribute(“autocomplete”) &&
element.getAttribute(“autocomplete”).toLowerCase() == “off”)
return true;

Replace with:

// if (element && element.hasAttribute(“autocomplete”) &&
// element.getAttribute(“autocomplete”).toLowerCase() == “off”)
// return true;

Note: because of spacing such the FIND option may not work for the above coding, since extra spacing was stripped out of it. Do a FIND for the first line (if (element && element.hasAttribute(“autocomplete”) &&) and you should be good to go.

Minor, but worth a laugh:

I’m using Firefox 3, not so much because I’m a beta groupie and want to be one of the first on board, but because Firefox 2 has been giving me a lot of problems lately. These problems aren’t (psst, Firefox is also marking aren’t as being incorrect!) isolated to just one computer, so I have ditched 2 and gone to 3.

How does this relate to blogging? Well, when Firefox 3 is marking correctly spelled words as being incorrectly spelled, there’s the potential of having less than perfect blog entries!
